Overview
Buffalo's Fire is a Native-led nonprofit news outlet that covers issues of importance to tribal communities in the Northern Plains. We are seeking a talented U.S.-based freelance editor to join our team on a flexible, project-by-project basis. This role is ideal for individuals with a keen eye for detail, a passion for refining written content, and a familiarity with or interest in tribal communities. As a freelance editor, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our stories are polished, accurate, and engaging. Responsibilities
- Edit and copy-edit articles
- Ensure clarity, coherence, and consistency
- Conduct research to verify facts
- Collaborate with writers to improve overall quality and style
- Adhere to rigorous journalistic standards
- Maintain high standards of grammar, punctuation, and style in accordance with established guidelines
Requirements
- Proven experience in proofreading, developmental editing, and copy editing for a news outlet or magazine
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong writing skills with an eye for detail and accuracy
- Ability to conduct research efficiently to verify information
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills
