Summary

The Student Academic and Engagement Coach supports elementary student success in a virtual learning environment by improving attendance, increasing engagement, and providing targeted academic interventions. This role works collaboratively with teachers, counselors, families, and administrators to identify barriers and implement strategies to help at-risk learners thrive. Responsibilities: Monitor student participation and engagement in online learning environments, communicate with families about attendance concerns, develop and implement engagement and intervention plans, and collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional strategies and align remediation activities with curriculum goals. Skills: Strong communication and relationship-building abilities, data analysis and assessment literacy, knowledge of academic intervention strategies, proficiency with online learning platforms, and commitment to equitable student support and confidentiality. Qualifications: North Carolina teaching certification required; experience supporting student engagement, attendance, and academic remediation in K-12 settings preferred. Must reside in North Carolina. Location: Remote - NC, United States Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $45,000 – $62,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

This educator works collaboratively with teachers, counselors, families, and administrators to identify barriers to attendance and performance, implement strategies to re-engage at-risk learners, and deliver academic support to ensure all students meet grade-level expectations. Key Responsibilities: Student Engagement Welcome new families to K12 Schools and guide them through account setup, platform navigation, and orientation resources. Build positive, supportive relationships with students to increase motivation, connection, and sense of belonging. Monitor student participation in classes and online learning environments; follow up with students showing disengagement or non-participation. Develop and implement engagement plans and incentive programs to promote consistent attendance and academic involvement. Collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional strategies and promote active learning for struggling students. Attendance Support Communicate regularly with families regarding attendance expectations, concerns, and improvement plans. Coordinate with school counselors, social workers, and administrators to address attendance barriers (health, motivation, family, etc.). Attend attendance conferences and serve as part of the school academic intervention team. Academic Remediation Collaborate with classroom teachers to align remediation activities with current curriculum and student learning goals. Use assessment data to design and monitor intervention plans that accelerate student progress. Document academic interventions and report student progress to stakeholders. Performance Expectations: Communicate regularly with families and maintain confidentiality of student information. Demonstrate commitment to equitable outcomes and culturally responsive practices. Maintain accurate records of interactions and supports in PowerSchool with clarity and completeness. Participate actively in professional learning and contribute to a positive school culture Apply knowledge of school systems, policies, and procedures to resolve requests. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: NC Teaching License Preferred Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree Must have prior school experience DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong organizational and time management skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Experience with student information systems or similar databases Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities Job Type Board Employee_CW The above job is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position.
