Academic Support and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Specialist

About the position Provide specialized administrative support to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and the University related to course scheduling and operations, student advising and success, student recruitment and retention efforts, and the university's institutional review board (IRB).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Point Park University policies, procedures, and readily utilized educational technology/platforms such as Microsoft Office suite, Jenzabar, PointWeb, FinishLine, and/or other related software to advise faculty, staff, and students and effectively collaborate with other university departments.
  • In collaboration with the Department Chairs, the Dean, and the Faculty Director of Operational Efficiencies and Retention in the School of Arts and Sciences, serve as the primary point of contact for submitting and updating course schedules for the departments in the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), including the preliminary screening/review of applications and communications regarding the IRB process and follow-up communications and documentation.
  • Support the Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in scheduling meetings, in updating policies and procedures, and in maintaining institutional compliance with federal requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Department Chairs and the Faculty Director of Operations, facilitate the organization and execution of recruitment and retention initiatives within the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Serve as a supplemental advisor and academic support liaison to students in the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Provide supplemental support to department chairs and coordinators regarding program assessment and accreditation, as needed, including the collection and compilation of assessment data.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, analytical, and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to independently identify, initiate, and complete tasks aligned with strategic initiatives in the School of Arts and Sciences and at the university.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to multi-task, exercise tact and diplomacy in sensitive or difficult situations, and maintain confidentiality in student and personnel matters.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or related work experience at an administrative level, preferably in higher education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in academic advising and student success preferred.
