Role Overview

This cross‑functional, part‑time position is fully remote, offering flexibility while demanding a high level of technical expertise and strategic thinking. You will collaborate closely with the Discovery sub‑team (Home, Personalization, and Search) to design, implement, and evolve data‑intensive systems that enable real‑time, data‑driven experiences. Your responsibilities will span the entire technology stack—from backend services and data pipelines to machine‑learning models and front‑end integration—ensuring that each component works harmoniously to deliver a frictionless user journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Serve as the lead architect for the Discovery domain, defining system blueprints, technology stacks, and integration patterns that meet performance, scalability, and reliability goals.
• Design Excellence: Translate complex business problems into clear, modular solutions, producing detailed design documents, API contracts, and data models.
• Technical Guidance: Mentor a team of 50+ engineers, providing technical direction across backend, frontend, and machine‑learning initiatives, and fostering a culture of best practices.
• Data Quality & Metrics: Define, implement, and monitor data quality standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure the integrity of recommendation and search pipelines.
• Cross‑Team Collaboration: Partner with product managers, data scientists, and UX designers to align architectural decisions with product roadmaps and user research insights.
• Innovation & Road‑Mapping: Identify emerging technologies, propose strategic enhancements, and contribute to the long‑term technology roadmap for the Discovery platform.
• Performance Optimization: Conduct capacity planning, load testing, and performance tuning to guarantee sub‑second latency for content discovery across all devices.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create comprehensive technical documentation, run architecture review sessions, and lead workshops on cutting‑edge topics.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on experience building large‑scale, distributed systems.
• Strong background as a senior software development engineer with deep expertise in system design and architecture.
• Proficiency in both relational (SQL) and non‑relational (NoSQL) data stores, with the ability to select appropriate technologies based on workload characteristics.
• Demonstrated experience designing data models, algorithms, and execution plans for high‑throughput services.
