About the Role
arenaflex is seeking a talented and driven Information Researcher – Real World Evidence (RWE) to join our dynamic Clinical Data Science team. This position reports directly to the Chief of Clinical Data Science and serves as an essential member of our Analytical Solutions group. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about impacting both internal and external decision-making through the use of creative data science and technology. In this role, you will conduct sophisticated data analysis to help address critical business questions facing our clients in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw data sets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data sources or authorized platforms, analyze and interpret results, and help shape research strategy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trials team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. Potential projects include analysis of unmet needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns and healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
- Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into a coordinated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/RWD to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analysis, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to resolve scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations.
- Research Studies: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, thorough, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations.
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analysis, and reports for internal and external use.
- Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data suppliers and vendors, and drive RWD quality evaluations to inform investment decisions.
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in biostatistics, statistics, public health, data science, computer science, or related field preferred.
- Statistical Expertise: Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data.
- Statistical Methods Proficiency: Knowledge of common statistical testing techniques including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time-series analysis, and survival analysis.
- Big Data Experience: Experience handling large datasets from various data sources.
- Data Privacy: Experience handling protected patient health information with strict adherence to privacy regulations and security protocols.
- BI Tools Proficiency: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI visualization tools.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS for data analysis and statistical modeling.
- Healthcare Data Understanding: Familiarity with healthcare data structures, including electronic medical records (EMR), claims data, and clinical databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field.
- EMR/Health IT Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases.
- Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9/10, Read Codes, SNOMED CT).
- Regulatory Compliance: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as well as regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR 21 Part 11).
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms and solutions.
- Advanced Statistical Methods: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and computational statistics.
- Machine Learning: Understanding of machine learning techniques and the ability to apply them to healthcare data challenges.
