About arenaflex

arenaflex is a forward-thinking, data-driven organization operating at the intersection of cloud computing, large-scale data engineering, and modern digital experiences. With a culture rooted in innovation, integrity, and continuous improvement, arenaflex empowers engineers, analysts, and data professionals to build transformative solutions that touch millions of customers every day. Our teams work on cutting-edge cloud infrastructure, leveraging the most advanced AWS services to design event-driven ecosystems, real-time analytics platforms, and resilient data architectures.

At arenaflex, we believe that data is the engine of every great decision. From the moment a customer interacts with our platforms to the sophisticated algorithms that personalize those experiences, our data infrastructure is the silent powerhouse behind it all. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about designing high-performance, event-driven data pipelines, architecting scalable NoSQL solutions, and unlocking the value of streaming data using Amazon Kinesis and related AWS services.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our growing data platform team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining event-driven data pipelines on AWS that power critical business functions and personalization features across our ecosystem. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product managers, software engineers, machine learning scientists, and business stakeholders—to translate complex data requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in AWS-native event-driven services such as Amazon EventBridge, AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions, along with strong proficiency in Python, NoSQL databases, and streaming data architectures. This is a remote-friendly position offering $26/hour with full-time stability, comprehensive benefits, and significant opportunities for career advancement within arenaflex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Build Event-Driven Data Pipelines: Architect, develop, and maintain production-grade event-driven data pipelines on AWS using services like Amazon EventBridge, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, and AWS Glue.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams to understand business needs, define data requirements, and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Implement Data Quality and Monitoring: Build and enforce data quality checks, validation rules, and observability dashboards to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of all data flowing through our systems.
  • Optimize for Performance and Cost: Continuously profile, benchmark, and optimize data pipelines for both runtime performance and cloud cost efficiency, ensuring maximum value from our AWS investment.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Keep up-to-date with the latest AWS technologies, serverless innovations, and data engineering best practices, and advocate for their adoption where they provide clear business value.
  • Develop Personalization Algorithms: Design and implement personalization algorithms using Python and Pydantic models to enhance customer experiences and product intelligence.
  • Manage NoSQL Data Stores: Build, maintain, and optimize DynamoDB tables and other NoSQL data stores, ensuring they meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.
  • Stream Real-Time Data: Use Amazon Kinesis to collect, process, and analyze streaming data in real time, enabling low-latency insights and event-driven automation across the platform.
  • Document and Mentor: Create comprehensive technical documentation and provide mentorship to junior engineers, contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a strong track record of building and maintaining production data pipelines.
  • AWS Expertise: Solid, demonstrable understanding of AWS-native event-driven services, including Amazon EventBridge, AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions.
  • Data Engineering Best Practices: Experience with data modeling, data quality assurance, data governance, and data security principles.
  • Programming Skills: Strong proficiency in Python and experience with serverless development frameworks.
  • Critical Thinking: Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to debug complex distributed systems under pressure.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications (Competitive Edge)

  • Experience with personalization algorithms and recommendation systems using Python and Pydantic models.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating DynamoDB tables and other NoSQL databases at scale.
  • Deep familiarity with Amazon Kinesis for streaming data ingestion, processing, and analytics.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or the AWS CDK.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and tools such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or Athena.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To thrive as a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will need a blend of technical depth, business acumen, and interpersonal skills. You should be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cloud-native environment, and you should be energized by the challenge of turning raw, high-velocity data into trusted, business-ready assets. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will regularly present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, write clear documentation, and contribute to architectural reviews. A growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for clean, maintainable code will set you apart.
