About the Opportunity

This Accountant position is responsible for the core bookkeeping functions connected with sales and use tax, as well as sales and use tax compliance processes. The role plays a vital part in supporting the organization's financial integrity by participating in the monthly accounting close cycle, preparing recurring monthly journal entries, and preparing general ledger account reconciliations. The ideal candidate will possess strong general ledger data analysis skills and the ability to create monthly data files that reconcile to the general ledger for the company's co-sourced tax compliance provider.

No prior sales tax experience is required, making this an outstanding opportunity for early-career accountants looking to specialize in tax compliance. You will work closely with the Senior Tax Accountants to ensure the timely and accurate completion of daily accounting and tax activities within the Corporate Tax Department. This position requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and other accounting statements and reports with precision and timeliness.
  • Audit and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting orders assigned to various accounts, ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
  • Apply sound accounting principles and develop or recommend accounting methods, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Educate, guide, or assign work to accountants, accounting clerks, and other stakeholders to participate in daily accounting activities and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with various departments, locations, and divisions to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Participate actively in financial reporting cycles, contributing to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Support the Senior Tax Accountants in maintaining accurate sales and use tax records and filings across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain organized documentation of all tax-related transactions, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in general ledger accounts through thorough investigation and analysis.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining accounting workflows and enhancing data integrity.

Reporting Structure and Travel

This position typically reports to a Senior Manager within the Corporate Tax Department. The role does not have any direct reports, providing an excellent opportunity to focus on individual contribution while collaborating closely with senior leadership. Travel requirements are minimal, with overnight travel expected less than 10% of the time, allowing you to maintain a stable remote work routine.

Physical and Working Conditions

This is a primarily sedentary role that can be performed in a comfortable indoor home office environment. Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with a regular opportunity to move about. Occasionally, there may be a need to move or lift light objects, such as office supplies or equipment. The work environment is comfortable and conducive to focused, detail-oriented work, with any unpleasant conditions being rare and non-offensive.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing and able to work remotely from a home-based office within the United States.
  • Successful completion of a four-year bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field of study.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in accounting or a related financial discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in advanced data analysis and skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger software such as SAP or comparable enterprise accounting platforms.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and a proven ability to thrive in a team-based work environment.
  • Strong ability to manage and execute multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with a track record of identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
