If you thrive in a fast‑paced, technology‑first environment and love the freedom of remote work, this is your chance to join a forward‑thinking team that values creativity, diversity, and continuous learning.

Position Overview

As a Remote Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest, process, and store petabytes of structured and unstructured data. You’ll collaborate with product owners, data analysts, and software engineers to ensure data is reliable, secure, and ready for downstream analytics and machine‑learning workloads. This role is fully remote for candidates located anywhere in the United States (excluding a short list of states where remote work is not permitted).

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Architecture: Design end‑to‑end data ingestion and transformation pipelines using industry‑standard tools such as Apache Spark, AWS Glue, and Databricks.
  • Data Modeling: Develop scalable data models and schemas that support high‑volume analytics, reporting, and AI/ML initiatives.
  • Tool Integration: Evaluate, integrate, and maintain emerging data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Airflow) to keep arenaflex’s data stack cutting‑edge.
  • Automation & CI/CD: Build automated testing suites, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment scripts to ensure reliable, repeatable releases.
  • Performance Tuning: Conduct root‑cause analysis of bottlenecks, optimize query performance, and implement cost‑effective cloud solutions.
  • Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Documentation: Produce clear, concise documentation of data flows, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Security & Governance: Enforce data security best practices, compliance standards, and data‑privacy policies across all pipelines.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior engineers and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing through code reviews and internal tech talks.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience building large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with Scala or Java is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS services (S3, EMR, Redshift, Lambda, Glue) and cloud‑native data solutions.
  • Experience with Hadoop ecosystem tools such as Hive, HDFS, and Spark.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for scalable deployments.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, data warehousing, and ETL best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code and implement automated unit and integration tests.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex data issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a distributed, remote team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or big‑data technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and feature‑store implementations.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI.
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) for reproducible environments.
  • Prior work in e‑commerce, retail, or consumer‑goods data domains.
  • Active participation in open‑source communities or contributions to data‑engineering projects.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Mastery of big‑data processing frameworks, cloud platforms, and modern data‑engineering practices.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate business questions into data‑driven solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable partnering across functional teams, influencing decisions, and driving consensus.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment where priorities shift and new technologies emerge.
  • Ownership: Take end‑to‑end responsibility for data reliability, from ingestion to delivery.
