This is more than just a job — it is an opportunity to architect the data backbone of a company that is changing the way the world experiences entertainment, parks, resorts, consumer products, and sports media.

If you have a deep passion for building robust data pipelines, designing scalable cloud-based architectures, and transforming raw data into powerful business insights, arenaflex wants to hear from you. This role offers a competitive hourly rate of $27/hour, full-time hours, and the chance to work on challenging, high-impact projects from your home office.

About the Role and the Team You Will Join

As a Remote Data Engineering Specialist at arenaflex, you will become a key member of our Decision Science and Data Integration (DSDI) organization. The DSDI team is the analytical engine of arenaflex, supporting critical business units including our renowned parks and resorts division, consumer products group, brand experiences, and entertainment segments that encompass film studios, general entertainment content, and sports media properties. Our team operates at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and creative storytelling.

Within DSDI, the Data Engineering (DE) team partners closely with Decision Science Product Managers, Decision Scientists, business analysts, and technology colleagues to deliver development, sustainment, research, and prototyping initiatives. We provide world-class data pipeline engineering, database design, and data integration services that empower stakeholders across the entire arenaflex ecosystem to make smarter, faster, and more informed decisions.

Your primary focus will be on the Media business vertical, where you will manage the development, sustainment, and continuous improvement of critical data products. This includes designing and optimizing data acquisition processes, implementing rigorous data validation frameworks, building ETL/ELT pipelines, and establishing proactive monitoring and alerting strategies that ensure data quality and reliability at scale.

Key Responsibilities: What You Will Do Every Day

As a Remote Data Engineering Specialist at arenaflex, your daily activities will be diverse, challenging, and deeply impactful. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Requirements Gathering and Stakeholder Collaboration: Work directly with business stakeholders, data scientists, analysts, and product managers to understand data needs, define technical requirements, and translate business questions into robust engineering solutions.
  • Source-to-Target Mapping: Develop comprehensive source-to-target data mapping documentation that ensures seamless data flow from origin systems through transformation layers and into final consumption destinations.
  • Data Validation Engineering: Build, test, and maintain sophisticated data validation scripts and frameworks that catch anomalies, enforce business rules, and guarantee the integrity of every dataset that flows through arenaflex pipelines.
  • ETL/ELT Pipeline Development: Design, develop, deploy, and monitor high-performance ETL and ELT data pipelines that move and transform terabytes of structured and semi-structured data across cloud-based and on-premises environments.
  • Database Architecture and Design: Architect, implement, and maintain database schemas, tables, views, and stored procedures following industry best practices for relational database design, normalization, and performance optimization.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting Support: Collaborate with analytics teams to produce curated datasets that power dashboards, visualizations, machine learning models, and executive-level reporting.
  • Pipeline Monitoring and Optimization: Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and observability practices to detect pipeline failures, performance degradation, and data quality issues before they impact downstream consumers.
  • Ad-Hoc Analysis and Prototyping: Support special projects, research initiatives, and rapid prototyping efforts that require quick-turnaround data engineering solutions and proof-of-concept development.
  • Code Quality and DevOps: Participate in code reviews, maintain comprehensive documentation, and follow DevOps best practices for continuous integration, continuous deployment, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Automation and Scheduling: Develop and maintain automated workflow schedulers that orchestrate complex data jobs across multiple systems and time zones.

Technologies and Tools You Will Work With

At arenaflex, we embrace a modern, cloud-native data stack. You will have the opportunity to work with, and grow your expertise in, the following technologies:

  • SQL Mastery: Primary work in Snowflake and PostgreSQL, with opportunities to optimize complex queries, design star and snowflake schemas, and implement advanced analytical functions.
  • Python Development: Build data transformation logic, validation scripts, and automation tools using Python and its rich ecosystem of data libraries (pandas, NumPy, PySpark, etc.).
  • Containerization: Leverage Docker to create reproducible, portable data engineering environments that streamline development and deployment workflows.
  • Version Control and CI/CD: Use GitLab for source control, code reviews, merge requests, and continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Workflow Orchestration: Build and maintain data pipelines using Apache Airflow, defining complex DAGs, dependencies, and scheduling logic.
  • Cloud Platforms: Work extensively within AWS environments, leveraging services like S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, and IAM to build scalable data solutions.
  • Big Data Technologies: Engage with Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, and other modern data platforms to process massive datasets efficiently.

Essential Qualifications: What You Need to Bring

To thrive in this role, candidates must possess the following foundational qualifications:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in ELT/ETL data pipeline development, deployment, and sustainment in production environments.
  • SQL Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in writing complex, performant SQL queries, with strong preference for experience using Snowflake or other cloud-native data warehouses.
  • Python Proficiency: Solid working knowledge of Python for data manipulation, scripting, and automation tasks.

  • Workflow Automation: Proven experience building and maintaining automated job schedulers and orchestration tools.
  • Relational Database Design: Strong understanding of relational database principles, normalization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.

Preferred Qualifications: What Will Set You Apart

Candidates who bring the following additional experiences will be strongly prioritized:

  • Containerization Skills: Practical experience using Docker for containerization of data applications and microservices.
  • Data Governance and Quality: Familiarity with data governance frameworks, data cataloging tools, data lineage tracking, and master data management concepts.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments, participating in sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives.
